It just fell off my DM80 as I was casting on. I brought the lock to the left side of the machine, and this fell to the floor. There was no breaking sound. It looks as if it slipped off from under the beds or the lock or the Deco that was resting on the extension on the left.
Your help will be greatly appreciated. I'm afraid to do a pass of the lock without this thing, whatever it is.

The mystery has been solved. I received an outpouring of answers on Ravelry and Yahoo Groups and another in the comments below. Thanks so very much for your help!
It's the bit that fits onto the racking handle so that you know which direction you are racking in. If you look at the set up instructions at the beginning of the instruction book, you will see which way to fit it. There is no problem knitting with it not on!
ReplyDeleteHi Jane, thanks! The part is not in the main instruction book I have. I finally found a drawing of the piece (attached to the handle) in the separate "Directions for unpacking..." pamphlet. Becker's _Passap Paramedic_ actually has a pic with the piece in its proper place so I was able to snap it back in. I'm back to knitting now, thanks to you and others who helped me identify the part. :)
