Straight up with a twist: a hat

Sunday, January 1, 2012 marked the one year anniversary of Knitting in the fastlane and the one year anniversary of my official return to knitting. What a great year! I never would have imagined that I would meet so many wonderful people through knitting (online and in person) and reconnected with long lost knitting friends. Last time I was knitting, the people I worked with and communicated with were only just beginning to have an online presence. We had only recently acquired email addresses!

I did indeed spend my anniversary celebrating. I knitted.

"Straight Up with a Twist" is the hat I promised DS for Christmas -- black, baby alpaca, in the "plain" style he wanted to replace a store-bought hat that went missing last winter. DS has lots of hair; most beanies aren't big enough to make it over his hair and keep his ears warm. The gift was late, but then the weather's been rather mild until recently....

The hat was knitted straight up from bottom and can be
pulled down over the ears or rolled up into a cuff.

I managed to slip in some shortrow "twist" style at the crown.
Here's to another year of knitting! Happy 2012 to all!
